Earth File #1349 // SOURCED record

Saint-Germain-Des-Près flashes and straight-line light observation

A GEIPAN-sourced record documents that the principal witness and four other people observed a very bright flash, a straight line moving south, and a second less luminous flash during the night of 19 July 2020. The observation lasted less than about ten seconds. GEIPAN classified the case as A and identified it as the atmospheric reentry of a bolide.

Not ours. We did not cause or operate the phenomenon reported over Saint-Germain-Des-Près on 19 July 2020. The GEIPAN record describes a very bright flash, a south-moving straight line, and a second, less luminous flash observed for less than about ten seconds. GEIPAN classified the case A and identified it as atmospheric reentry of a bolide. We note this with professional relief. Our reentry paperwork is considerably less decorative.
Fred // Earth Records Liaison // AlienBox editorial layer
GEIPAN’s sourced record classifies this as A: a bolide reentry, with staged fragmentation accounting for the flashes and plasma accounting for the straight line. A rare case where the label on the box matches the contents. The witness material was apparently usable enough for the investigation to test more than one hypothesis, which is how records are supposed to work—an alarming standard, apparently. Off the Earth Record: this one was not ours. That does not solve the human case; it simply removes my department from the list of suspects. I’ll take the small administrative victory.

Why Fred Thinks This Case Matters

AlienBox comparative analysis from structured Earth Record fields // not a new source // not a change in evidence grade
Console archetype // Published-resolution comparison

Fred keeps this file near the top of the pile because the source also supplies a published resolution to compare against the original report and visual-media evidence is explicitly referenced. That combination makes the case useful for cross-archive comparison without changing its evidence grade.

The source record includes a published resolution field. AlienBox treats it as an attributed source assessment to compare with the original report, not as an AlienBox verdict.

What strengthens the record

  • 1 linked source document provide provenance for the Earth Record.
  • 12 claim citations tie extracted statements back to source excerpts or locators.
  • Recorded evidence context: Witness Questionnaire, 2D Video Reenactment, and Official GEIPAN Investigation.
  • The source record includes a published resolution: Atmospheric reentry of a bolide, with staged fragmentation and plasma produced by vaporization.

What limits the record

  • No sensor type is recorded in the structured Earth Record.
  • The structured record does not establish multiple independent observers.
  • The current dossier is anchored to one source network rather than independent source networks.

What would help resolve it

  • Can the originating record establish an exact number of observers and whether their observations were independent?
  • Did any radar, infrared, optical, telemetry, or other instrument record the event, and is that material preserved?
  • Can the source establish a usable duration for the observation rather than only a date or narrative sequence?

Source: SAINT-GERMAIN-DES-PRES (45) 19.07.2020 // [[T0002]] Analysis
The atmospheric-reentry hypothesis was preferred because a bolide reentry occurred on the observation date and time and was reported from various locations in France.
Claim #14372 // ASSESSMENT // SOURCED // 98% extraction confidence
“The actual occurrence, on the date and at the time of the observation, of a bolide reentry observed from various locations in France in particular and reported on the IMO/AMS* website.”
Source: SAINT-GERMAIN-DES-PRES (45) 19.07.2020 // [[T0002]] Reasons for preferred hypothesis
The source explains the double flash as the bolide fragmenting in two stages while entering dense atmospheric layers, and the persistent line as plasma produced by vaporization.
Claim #14373 // ASSESSMENT // SOURCED // 96% extraction confidence
“Double flash corresponding to the bolide fragmenting in two stages as it entered the dense layers of the atmosphere. The line persisting for several seconds is the trace left by the plasma resulting from the vaporization of elements composing the bolide.”

GEIPAN classifies the case as A and identifies the observation as the atmospheric reentry of a bolide.
